Mr. Masters was born on July 3, 1951 in Sebring,
Florida. He served in the
U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973. He married in 1978 and has two adult daughters.
Mr. Masters received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 and
his Juris Doctor in 1986 from
the University of Montana. Upon moving to Montrose, he joined the
private practice of Mathis & Masters until 1999. He then began his
own solo practice, The Masters Law Firm, as a general legal practice
involving a wide variety of issues and clients with an emphasis on
business, real estate, employment law, transactions, litigation and
appeals.
Mr.
Masters is the president of the Colorado Bar Association. He has
been a member of the American
Bar Association - Law Practice Management Section and General
Practice Solo and Small Firm Division since 1986. He served on The
Colorado Lawyer Board of Editors from 1999 through 2004, and the
Seventh Judicial District Judicial Performance
Review Commission from 2001 through 2011. He is a member of the faculty at the
National Institute for Trial Advocacy, Rocky Mountain Trial Skills
program.
Mr.
Masters' reported cases are: Montrose Valley Funeral Home, Inc.
v. Crippin, 835 P.2d 596 (Colo. App. 1992); Whinnery v.
Thompson, 868 P.2d 1095 (Colo. App. 1993) reversed 895
P.2d 537 (Colo. 1995); In re Estate of Masden, 24 P.3d 634
(Colo. App. 2001); and Donohue v. Hoey, 109 Fed. Appdx. 340 (10th
Cir. 2004) cert denied 544 U.S. 921, 125 S. Ct. 1641 (2005).
Considered a pioneer in the conception of paperless offices, Mr.
Masters is a published author of The Lawyer's Guide
to Adobe Acrobat (American Bar Association, Law Practice
Management Section). He has contributed to several other books,
including the Colorado Appellate
Practice Guide, Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc.,
Chapter 23 - Electronic Briefs; Flying
Solo, American Bar Association, Law Practice Management
Section, Chapter 34 - Adobe Acrobat for E-Filing and More;

Kathryn M. Sellars -
Associate Attorney

Ms. Sellars was born in
Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelor of Arts
degree in 1999 from Tulane University in New Orleans and
her Juris Doctor in 2004 from the University of San Diego.
She holds licenses to practice law in both Colorado and New York.
Ms. Sellars joined The Masters Law Firm in 2007.
Ms. Sellars is a current member and a former president of the
Seventh Judicial District Bar Association. In addition, she is a a current member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association,
the Colorado Bar Foundation, and the Colorado Bar Association
Professionalism Committee. Between 2006 and 2010, she was on the Colorado Bar Association Board of
Governors, the Colorado Bar Association President Nominating Committee, the
Colorado Bar Association Executive Council, the Colorado Bar
Association Economic Task Force, and the New York State Bar
Association. Ms. Sellars was also part of the COBALT Class of 2009.

Jennifer LeBlanc Hemond -
Paralegal

Ms. Hemond was born in
Palo Alto, California and raised in Southern California. She
received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology in
1988 from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She received
her paralegal certificate from the University of Santa Clara
Institute of Paralegal Education in 1989. After beginning her
paralegal career in Santa Cruz and San Jose, California, she
relocated to Montrose, Colorado in 1990 and commenced working at the
law firm of Mathis & Masters, P.C. She joined Mr. Masters at his
solo practice and has now been working with Mr. Masters for more
than 20 years.
Ms. Hemond is a former member of the Paralegal
Association of Santa Clara County (PASCCO) and upon moving to
Western Colorado she sought a similar association to join. Finding
none, Ms. Hemond was instrumental in the formation of Legal
Assistants of the Western Slope (LAWS) in 1995 as a NALA affiliate.
LAWS continues to provide networking opportunities and continuing
legal education for Western Slope area paralegals.
Ms. Hemond has been a presenter of the Paperless Office
for Paralegals for the Colorado Bar Association CLE program as well
as a contributor to the Guidelines for the Utilization of Paralegals
approved by the CBA Board of Governors.
Maria Nichols - Administrative Assistant

Maria was born in Asheville, North Carolina and moved to Montrose,
Colorado in 1982. She received an Associate of Arts degree in Paralegal
Studies from Keiser College in 2006 and joined The Masters Law Firm
the same year. Maria provides secretarial, bookkeeping and other financial services
to The Masters Law Firm. She is available for billing questions, to
assist vendors and suppliers, and many other miscellaneous tasks.
